THE "RAILS TO GRANTOWN PROJECT"

The Strathspey Railway Company has, since its foundation in 1972, had an ambition to run its steam railway services to Grantown-on-Spey and to create a visitor destination station there. Services presently terminate at Broomhill, 3 miles from Grantown.

In 2008 a new body, The Strathspey Railway Charitable Trust, was formed with the specific task of restoring this part of the former Highland Railway line to Grantown. This leaves the Strathspey Railway Company free to concentrate on running trains on the existing line from Aviemore to Broomhill and ultimately over the extended line when it is completed by the Trust.

This new Trust gained Charitable Status in May 2009. This gives it access to various ways of raising funds which have never been available to the Railway Company or its related Supporters’ Association.
